What ingredients do i need for banana bread?

If you've ever craved something sweet and delicious, the humble banana bread is one of the yummiest treats out there. Not only is it sweet and comforting, but it's surprisingly easy to make at home with just pantry ingredients. Let's take a look at what you need to make this classic recipe.

The main ingredient in banana bread is, of course, ripe bananas – the riper they are, the better your banana bread will taste. Try to look for bananas that have lots of brown spots on the skin for sweetness. You'll also need butter or oil (canola, coconut or vegetable), sugar (white or light brown), eggs, baking soda and salt, plain flour and your favourite extras like walnuts, chocolate chips or dried fruit if desired.

Firstly melt the butter in a saucepan on low heat until just melted, then add in any extras such as nuts or chocolate chips and stir to combine. In a separate bowl whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and foamy then fold in your mashed ripe bananas until smooth. Sift together all the dry ingredients – flour, baking soda and salt – then pour them into the wet mixture and fold through gently with a spatula until combined.

Pour batter into a greased cake tin (or use a silicone mould) then bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25–30 minutes until golden brown when tested with a toothpick or skewer. Allow to cool before serving warm and enjoy as is, sprinkled with some icing sugar or added with cream cheese frosting ice-cream!
